Statement in support of Shelby McPhee

The Executive of the Canadian Association of Teachers of German wishes to express its solidarity with Shelby McPhee, a member of the Black Canadian Studies Association (BCSA). We were shocked to hear about his treatment during an incident at the recent Congress of the Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences at UBC. We fully support the open letter of the BCSA and call on the Federation (and indeed on any and all of us) to ensure that our spaces of academic interaction are free from harassment and racism.
