Which Data We Collect and Why
Website and Group Activity and Usage
We collect information about your use of the CAUTG/APAUC website, which is hosted by Google’s G-Suite for Education. This information includes data about which pages you visit, posts you view, and activity in the CAUTG/APAUC email list which is hosted by Google Groups. If you join the Google Groups list, you consent to have your email stored there. Please refer to Google’s Privacy Policy for more detailed information.
Membership Information
The CAUTG/APAUC maintains records of its members. These records include members’ names, email addresses, postal addresses, and telephone numbers. These records are accessible by the organization’s Treasurer and Secretary.
Financial Information
Encrypted credit card data used in membership payments is collected by the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences (“the Federation”) and its Forum membership system. CAUTG/APAUC does not have access to the full credit card details. Please refer to the Federation’s privacy policy (English | French) for more detailed information. Credit card payments are processed by iATS Payments. Refer to their privacy policy for more detailed information.
When you join the CAUTG/APAUC or new your membership, you are asked to indicate a salary range, which determines your scaled membership rate. The salary range you indicate is accessible to the organization’s Treasurer and Secretary.
Author and Peer Reviewer Information
The editor(s) of the CAUTG/APAUC’s journal, Seminar: A Journal of Germanic Studies (“Seminar”), collect(s) information of authors and peer-reviewers, including names, email addresses, and postal addresses.
Uses of Your Information
Communications from the CAUTG/APAUC
We will use the contact information you provide (including email address and postal address) to send you communications about the activities of the organization. The communications may include inquiries and notifications related to your membership. If you have consented to join the CAUTG/APAUC’s Google Groups email list, we will use the information to send you emails that are distributed by the Google Groups list.
Seminar retains data for the purpose of publication and archiving, including the maintenance of a reviewer database; its records are stored on Dropbox (privacy policy) and shared with the University of Toronto Press (“UTP”).
We share your postal address with UTP. UTP uses this information to provide members with copies of Seminar as a benefit of CAUTG/APAUC membership. See UTP’s privacy policy for more information.
Directory
As a benefit of membership, the CAUTG/APAUC may produce a directory of members that is made available to the members. This directory will include publicly available information that you have shared with us (e.g., name, email address, postal address, telephone number). If you wish to opt out of the directory or keep any particular part of this information private, you must notify the CAUTG Secretary.
Location of Servers
Our servers are located in the United States (via Google) and Canada (at the University of Alberta). If you are outside the United States, be aware that any information you provide to us through use of our website or listserve, for example, will be transferred to and through the United States and may be subject to the laws and jurisdiction of the United States. These laws may be different from the jurisdiction in which you reside. By using the CAUTG/APAUC’s services, including the organization’s website, you consent to the collection, storage, processing, and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.
