Job Posting: Super Sessional Instructor of German at U of Manitoba

The Department of German and Slavic Studies at the University of Manitoba is advertising the position of an 8-month super sessional instructor in German Studies for 2017-18 (Start Date: 7 September 2017; End Date: 23 April 2018).

The successful candidate will teach the following six courses (18 credit hours), 9 in German literature/culture, 9 in German language.

Fall/Winter (6 credit hours): GRMN 2100: Intermediate German (M, W, F 1:30-2:20) (up to level A2)

Fall 2017:

• GRMN 2130: Introduction to German Culture from the Beginnings to 1918, conducted in English, 3 credit hours (M, W, F 10:30-11:20)
• GRMN 3510/4670/7360: Special Topics in German in English translation (specific topic seminar for upper level undergraduate, honours, and M.A. students depending on expertise/wishes of hired candidate, 3 credit hours (W 6:00-8:45 p.m.)

Winter 2018:

• GRMN 1120: Beginning German (second half of 6-credit hour course that starts in Fall 2017), 3 credit hours (M, W, F 11:30-11:20) (up to level A1)
• GRMN 1300: Masterpieces in German Literature in English Translation, 3 credit hours (M, W, F 10:30-11:20)

The successful candidate must hold a PhD or have ABD status in a Phd program (or equivalent) in German, a native or near-native command of English and German, as well as successful teaching experience at the university level (or equivalent).

The salary will be $40,000. The economy fare for one return flight from/to the current place of residence (for successful candidates from outside Manitoba) will also be reimbursed. Further professional development funds might also be available.
