Call for Applications: DAAD Fortbildungsseminar Vancouver Nov 2-4, UBC

The Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies at the University of British Columbia invites applications for participation in the third annual Northwestern DAAD Fortbildungsseminar, to be held November 2-4. This seminar, titled Deutsch lernen und lehren, hier und heute, presents a unique professional development opportunity for junior faculty, graduate teaching assistants and teachers of German in the Western Prairie Provinces and the Pacific Northwest.

Through a series of dynamic and interactive workshops, participants will gain theoretical grounding in some of the most innovative developments in the field of Deutsch als Fremdsprache and practice new teaching approaches.

We begin with a catered reception on the evening of Friday, November 2. The seminar itself takes place on Saturday, November 3, and will feature the following:

• Workshop 1: Maximizing Learner Engagement through Task-based Instruction
• Workshop 2: New Approaches to Teaching German Pronunciation
• Workshop 3: The Use of Music in Teaching and Learning the German Phonemes
• Workshop 4: Digital Tools for Collaborative Language Learning: CLAS and OneNote
• Roundtable: Challenges and Opportunities Facing the Teaching of German in the Region

The seminar concludes on Sunday with a plenary discussion at breakfast.

The Seminar is sponsored by the DAAD, and funding for accommodation (double occupancy) and economy travel is provided for out-of-town participants from the Western Prairies and Pacific Northwest region.
