Please take a closer look at this new publication in Canadian German Studies: Romanhaftes Erzählen von Geschichte: Vergegenwärtigte Vergangenheiten im beginnenden 21. Jahrhundert. Ed. Daniel Fulda and Stephan Jaeger in collaboration with Elena Agazzi. Studien und Texte zur Sozialgeschichte der Literatur 148. Berlin: de Gruyter, 2019. 519 pp. (vii + 502 pp.).
The book is designed in handbook style with contributors from eight countries to give a systematic overview of historical narrative in German texts at the beginning of the 21st century. It looks at the forms and functions of novelistic narratives in both aesthetically sophisticated and popular writing and in different fictional genres. It illuminates innovations vis-à-vis the classical historical novel and today’s experience-oriented, de-hierarchized, and hybrid historical culture.
