Job Ad: Assistant Professor in German, Dalhousie University

The Department of German at Dalhousie University invites applications for a 3 year 100% full-time limited term appointment at the Assistant Professor rank in literature and philosophy, effective July 1, 2020. The Assistant Professor will teach courses in topics at the core of the German Honours program, such as German Art and Literature, German Romanticism, In Pursuit of Freedom from Luther to Nietzsche, Modern German Literature, Confronting Fascism, and Modern German Philosophy. The workload is equivalent to six semester-long classes annually.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in German studies and/or comparative linguistics/ literature/philosophy. The ideal candidate will be able to invigorate course offerings and attract students to the program, building bridges between our curriculum and other programs at Dalhousie/King’s. Native or native-equivalent command of German and English, as well as expertise in teaching literature, cultural studies and/or philosophy at the undergraduate level, are required. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and administrative skills.
