Member Survey: Future GSC/ÉAC Conference Format (Dec 11, 2022)

German Studies Canada / Études Allemandes Canada Member Survey: Future GSC/ÉAC Conference Format

While we look forward to our in-person GSC/ÉAC conference (28-30 May 2023, York University, see cfp), the Board of Directors has entered deliberations around the format and frequency of the GSC conference in 2024 and beyond, as discussed at the Annual General Meeting of GSC/ÉAC in May 2022. In the pre-pandemic past, GSC/ÉAC held annual in-person conferences in conjunction with the Congress of the Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences, together with a large number of other associations. In recent years, members have commented on the rising costs of attending the conference, shrinking/missing research funds, and the carbon footprint of in-person conferences. Members have also expressed interest in trying out new forms of engagement at the GSC/ÉAC conference.

The Board aims to find a conference format that is as exciting, welcoming, and inclusive as possible. To inform its deliberations, it would be very helpful if current members of GSC/ÉAC (as well as past and potential future members) could answer the survey items at the link below (5-10 minutes) by 11 December 2022. Thank you for taking the time!

Markus Stock, President, German Studies Canada/Études Allemandes Canada
