Recruiting M.A. graduate student in German for SSHRC Project on Memory and Migration (Memorial University of Newfoundland)

I am currently recruiting an M.A. student in German Language and Literature who is interested in working on memory and migration in German-language literature. Having secured SSRHC funding for research on Transnational European Memory in German-language Literature from Eastern Europe, I will hire a graduate student on a stipend that supplements standard graduate funding for two years. The student will also receive subsidized travel to a conference as well as to the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach. The student has ideally completed an Honours B.A. in German or equivalent and can provide evidence of advanced German skills.

The newly revised M.A. program in German at Memorial University of Newfoundland (please contact me for details) takes a personalized approach and offers ample opportunities for interdisciplinary study and study abroad. It consists of a 2-year program combining course work and a thesis. Memorial University offers excellent services and professional development opportunities for graduate students as part of EDGE (Enhanced Development of the Graduate Experience).

In addition to the stipend, full-time graduate students in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Memorial University of Newfoundland also qualify for funding (approx. $6,800 / year). To qualify for funding, students must have held a 75% average in the last 20 courses of their latest degree. Furthermore, graduate students have the opportunity to be employed as Graduate Assistants and Teaching Assistants (at an hourly rate of $22.22). Tuition at MUN is one of the lowest in Canada. For more information on graduate funding, tuition, and cost of living in St. John’s, please visit http://www.mun.ca/become/ graduate/fees_funding/ graduate_funding.php.
