The Kim Misfeldt Prize for Intercultural Awareness and Competence in Study Abroad
It gives me great pleasure to announce the results of the annual Kim Misfeldt Prize. In the inaugural year of the Prize, the Canadian Association of University Teachers of German (CAUTG), in partnership with the Canadian Summer School in Germany (CSSG), is awarding the Prize to be shared by Kelsey Wiggers (University of Calgary) and Braedon Pauzé (University of British Columbia).
The Kim Misfeldt Prize recognizes undergraduate achievements and celebrates building transcultural bridges through intellectual engagement and participation in the international community. In particular, the Prize rewards the outstanding performance of an undergraduate student participant of the CSSG for superior achievement in developing intercultural awareness and intercultural communicative competence through graded coursework, active engagement in the cultural program, and interpersonal interaction in German with CSSG peers, instructors, and host family members during the sojourn abroad. The Prize also honours and celebrates the outstanding contributions made by Dr. Kim Misfeldt as Director of the CSSG for 14 years and an instructor there for 15 years.
Kelsey Wiggers’ and Braedon Pauzé’s accomplishments are especially significant given the very high quality of the ten nominated candidates for this year’s award; that two candidates were chosen to receive the award this time; and that the selection of the winners was made by a committee of all CSSG 2019 instructors.
The Kim Misfeldt Prize is an excellent testimony to the winners’ intellectual and interpersonal capacities and consists of an award of $500, to be shared by this year’s winners.
Congratulations once again to Kelsey Wiggers and Braedon Pauzé!
